As I have predicted July is less exciting than June. Truth is the saving grace of July is its last six days.

July 10 – FS Townhall 4
It was the semi-annual FinServ Townhall. A night to honor people who had been doing a great job in our LOB.

July 25 – Belle De Jour Rendezvous: Recessionista Fashionista
Another BDJ Planner event and I’m part of it. I can’t wait for the next one which will be the launch of the 2010 planner.

July 26 – Red Box with Che and Grace
It was supposed to be a GND get-together but unfortunately most of them weren’t available and some of those who confirmed failed to wake up on time =p Nonetheless, we had fun and more mic time. Haha…

July 26 – National Sports Grill with Donna and KC
It’s supposed to be a DLR get-together as well, pero asa Tagaytay si Eia at MIA si Rysa.
New experience: maalok ng round of drinks ng some guy na hindi namin kilala
I watched the Blue Eagles vs Fighting Maroons game there at ang masasabi ko lang isinusumpa ko, hindi na ako manonood ng UAAP. Ako yata ang malas ng Ateneo. For the first time in many years ngayon lang ako nagtiyaga manood ng Blue Eagle game tapos talo pa. Kaya makikibalita na lang talaga ako as usual at hindi na manonood.

And before July ended I got shortlisted for Communications Coach and SME at work. It makes work a bit more interesting.

That was July. Now, I am excited for August. Lyra’s coming to Manila from Davao and Joline’s coming to the Philippines from the U.S.

And before the last day of July completely ends, Happy Feast Day of St. Ignatius de Loyola! ^_^

When I thought that we could finally be friends in the real sense of the word, here you go again. Why do you have to say the wrong words at the right moment?

Nothing changed in our situation. We don’t deserve another chance.

No one has to remind me of something that’s going to happen. There’s not one second that I’ve forgotten it. I know that nothing that I do will change what’s to come. Maybe I’m trying to enjoy the temporary highs of here and now because I know I won’t have then and forever.

I wrote this sort of poem back in December of 2007. Looking back at my Blogspot posts, I can say that I was utterly depressed at that time (seriously, 78 blog posts for that alone?!?). Anyway, I think what I say here is still true. I’m still inside waiting for someone to find the key. I don’t think the “you” I talked about here has the spine to look for the key, so I’m hoping that someone better will.

The Door

I’ve closed the door
Locked it
Thrown away the key

Inside
I try to pick up the pieces
Of my shattered dreams

I’m left with mending my life
Making new plans
Learning to dream again

I hear noise
Coming from the other side
Of that closed door

You do not knock
But you make your presence known
You’re outside

But the door is locked
And i can’t open it for you
I’ve thrown the key

June is my birth month. This year, it’s been one heck of a month. There were moments of sadness and disappointment, confusion and discouragement, and there’re also moments of joy and fulfillment.

The Month That Was

June 1 – Bowling with Sean

We were supposed to do go-karting, but we weren’t able to find an open place. We went to Megamall instead and bowled. The last time I went bowling was back in 4th year HS PE. Whaa! I’ve never been a fan of the sport.

June 2 – Quarterlife

Silver year – 25. I keep on forgetting though that I’m already 25 years old. Haha.

June 4 – St. Jude Adventure with CJ

We braved the rain and the flood in Mendiola to light those different-colored candles and say those prayers. The wishes are slowly coming through, so it’s worth it.

June 6 – Dinner at Krocodile Grill with Shai And Iris

It’s the typhoon’s fault why we’re only three. But I was glad that I was able to see the soon-to-be mommy Shai

June 13 – Dinner at Kitchen in Greenbelt

After doing some errands, I had dinner at Kitchen. It’s just my second time to eat here. The place has become significant because this is where I last saw Ivan alive

June 20 – SPF 24/7 at Clearwater, Clarkfield Pampanga

It was the long-awaited company outing of 24/7 Customer Philippines. The weather was so effing whacked that it changed around half a dozen times. Despite the shower and mud, it was still fun.

June 27 – Mom’s Birthday

I miss my mom!

June 28 – Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen with Terence

Of course, we wouldn’t miss this! My brother is a big Transformers fan (the cartoon and franchise). We had to be patient though because the lines for the tickets were really long.

Mid-year Review

At the start of the year I  made a 2009 To-do List and so far here’s what I accomplished:

♥ Go to Trinoma and Serendra check!

♥ Go to Enchanted Kingdom check!

♥ Watch Terminator: Salvation with my brother on cinema check!

♥ Attend all the Optus parties and 24/7 events so far, so good. Went to the first FS Townhall, the Optus family day at EK, the FS World Vision outreach, the Optus anniversary party at the Fort, the 24/7 company outing and next week I’ll be going to the 2nd FS Townhall.

♥ Go to the U.P. Fair check!

I was able to accomplish a lot, but there are a lot more to do. ^_^

So, that was the month that was named June. I predict that July will be less exciting, but it’s fine. I’ve had so much from June. ^_^

I was just checking the available books in the big National Bookstore beside Gateway Mall, waiting for a friend, when this pink book caught my attention. I’ve heard of Camilla Morton’s first book, “How To Walk In High Heels” but I hadn’t had the chance to read it. But as I browsed the contents of this book, I knew I shouldn’t leave that bookstore without a copy of it.

This book didn’t teach me to be superficial by being too brand-conscious and caring too much just about the way I look, but it taught me that you shouldn’t just be a woman with style, but also with substance.

The book is filled with “how tos” from how to decode dress codes to how to brush up on your Shakespeare to how to toss a pancake to how to admit defeat. It also includes practical guides for activities for each month. It also has suggestions of works of art to see and films to watch.

It also contains trivia on what happened or the occassions celebrated on each day of the year. It gives history lessons, but not in the boring way.

It gives glimpses of places that one might want to visit in its section “Wish You Were Here” section that comes in the form of letters from fashion icons such as Giorgio Armani, Manolo Blahnik and Heidi Klum.

It also gives suggestions for books to read on your own or for book clubs in its “Page Turner” section.

And the section I love most is “Muse of the Month” which contains the life and times of inspiring women who defines “girl power”.

Since I’m more of a non-fiction reader than a fan of fiction, this book is really a great find for me. But whether you’re into non-fiction or not, I highly recommend this to the classy girls out there.

Once upon a time there lived a young princess with skin as white as snow, with hair as black as coal, with lips redder than blood. Most people think they know what happens to this young unfortunate girl. Most people are wrong.

“Snow, Glass, Apples”, by Neil Gaiman, is a retelling of one of the most popular fairytales, Snow White. The story is written from the point of view of Snow White’s “evil” stepmother the Queen.

The story includes themes of vampirism, pedophilia and necrophilia.

I like fairytale retellings because they show the other side of the story, not the happily-ever-after side.

This one is a good retelling. I first encountered the piece when a friend shared it to me in college. It was one of their required readings for Communication 1 (or was it 2) in U.P. From that day on, I never saw Snow White the same way again.
When I was doing my college thesis in my senior year about children’s book, I made my research an excuse to read this story again though you really woudln’t categorize it under children’s reading because of it’s dark nature.

The story “Snow, Glass, Apples” is included in Gaiman’s collection Smoke and Mirrors. It’s a great finale for a series of fascinating short stories.
